4th of July Parade

Join fellow Moraine Township Dems and show your support for Democratic values and our candidates! And have fun on July 4th. The

Highland Park parade will step off at 10:00 am. We start gathering at 9:00 – please arrive by 9:30 – 9:40.

We need people to walk with us, people to serve as Moraine Dems Parade Marshals, and folks who can help us staff the Democrats’ table at the festival at Sunset Park after the parade.  Or just come by our booth and visit.

The parade will begin at 1700 St. John’s Avenue – the train station parking lot east of the tracks and south of Laurel (look for

Spot #34 – Moraine Township Democrats) – and will end at Sunset Woods Park. The total parade distance will be nine blocks.

Hope you can join us!  To RSVP, click here.  For more information, call us at (847)702-6635.

MTDO Party With Our Party

On the evening of July 13, close to 100 local Democrats celebrated the summer at Moraine Dems annual membership event, Party with Our Party, hosted this year by Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering. Even a brief thunderstorm could not dampen the festive mood as all present moved indoors to hear inspiring speeches from Susana Mendoza, candidate for Illinois Comptroller; Brad Schneider, candidate for Congress from the 10th District; Illinois State Senator Julie Morrison and State Representative Scott Drury, both running for reelection; Erin Cartwright Weinstein, candidate for Clerk of the Court of Lake County; Matt Stanton, candidate for Lake County State’s Attorney; and Tom Rudd, Lake County Corone r. A team of Tenth Dems interns staffed the sign-in table and helped keep the food platters full and the drinks flowing. Susana Mendoza, candidate for Illinois Comptroller, brought along her young son David, who seemed to find the speeches almost as entertaining as the rope swing in the garden.

Volunteers Needed For Moraine Township’s Food Pantry!

Ravinia Festival has generously offered to help keep Moraine Township’s Food Pantry stocked over the summer months.  We are thrilled beyond words!   The Festival has offered to have a food collection bin at each Saturday concert beginning June 11, and will email ticket holders with a shopping list and reminder the Thursday before the concert.

As many of you know, community food drives drastically decline during the summer months, but our clients continue to visit our pantry all summer, particularly families whose students are not fed at school during the 10-week summer school vacation.

HELP!  We need at least two, possibly three volunteers each Saturday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. throughout the summer to oversee the collection cart at the Ravinia information booth and bring food to the Township.  Volunteers MUST take the food away the same night, and will need to arrange to get it to the Township the following Monday.

If you can volunteer for one or more Saturdays, we will be eternally in your debt.  Maybe longer!

Please let us know if you can help and we’ll begin to fill in a schedule.
