Moraine Township Proposes 5% Reduction in Tax Levy

Moraine200colorMoraine Township trustees have proposed a tax levy reduction of more than 5 percent for the 2014 assessment year (2015 tax payment year).

Accounting for less than 1 percent of residents’ property tax (less than $100 on a $500,000 home), Moraine Township services include general and emergency assistance for income-qualified residents, a door-to-door van service for seniors and disabled township residents, a food pantry, utility assistance, assistance accessing state and federal benefits residents may be eligible for, and help enrolling for Medicaid or subsidized health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, to name a few.

“Our goal is to efficiently deliver a safety net to township residents who are struggling through difficult times, streamline and leverage resources, partner with agencies to avoid duplication of services, and diversify our revenue stream with grant funding where possible,” said Township Supervisor Anne Flanigan Bassi.

The Moraine Township Assessor’s office annually appraises all Township property, apportioning the tax burden over all property in a fair and equitable manner. Township Assessor Cynthia Plouché welcomes the opportunity to be of assistance to all residents. “Our doors are always open to help property owners understand their assessments and assist them with the assessment process,” she said.
