The Scouts “scouted” for food, and Moraine Township Food Pantry users benefited! Many thanks to the Northeast Illinois Council of Boy Scouts and Sunset Foods for the 100 bags of groceries delivered to the Moraine Township Food Pantry on March 6.
Food insecurity is growing in our community, with 27.5 percent of Highland Park/Highwood School District 112 students qualifying for the low-income federal free and reduced lunch program.
When residents visit the Moraine Township Food Pantry, in addition to bags of dried and canned food, they are also offered frozen meat. Thanks to a grant from Congregation Solel, the township is now able to offer fresh produce, eggs and dairy to pantry users. Highland Park’s Sunset Foods has been generously donating produce and bakery items that would otherwise be disposed of.
Income-qualified Moraine Township residents are welcome to visit the food pantry. For pantry hours or to make an appointment for other times, call 847-432-3240.
